Why Grow Organically ?

"If all the land was paper and all the seas were ink and all the trees were bread and cheese, what would we have to drink ?"
Growing food using organic methods promotes healthy soil.

Nurtures Soil

Sustainability is at the core of the organic movement. Growing organically improves and maintains the structure and balance of the soil. Micro organisms helpful to plant growth and trace minerals essential to good human health are preserved. Organic food production is sustainable in the long term and will conserve good soil for future generations. By joining the happy band of organic growers you can make your contribution to our sustainable future.

Cuts Food Miles

Organic food growing provides tasty and nutritious fruit and vegetables. Alongside the organic movement, the encouragement and development of local growers in Bristol is moving towards providing more locally sourced food and so reduce food miles.

Supports Wildlife and Biodiversity

Organic Growers know the importance of a good balance of wildlife from pollinators, bugs to pests and make efforts through planting to attract and accommodate a wide variety of species. Heavy use of chemical fertilisers and insecticides reduces the rich variety of wildlife, both "good"and "bad".

Makes Better Use of Scarce Resources

Along with water, the scarcity of land for food is becoming a global issue. The organic movement has been for decades encouraging the organic growing of food in any available space from pots on balconies to small back gardens and allotments to build resilience into our food chain.

Through  outreach work and our regular interactive and fascinating talks we hope to introduce more and more people to the principles of organic growing.
